Who’s up for a challenge?
Like many others, I make resolutions and goals for the New Year. And all too often, I manage to keep them for a week or two!
One thing that has never failed to be a valuable goal is daily time spent in God’s word.
This year, I have made a goal to read through the entire Bible and I would love for you to join me. I do not think you can underestimate the change that happens in your life by spending even a few minutes daily in God’s word.
You may already have a daily reading plan in mind and if so, fantastic! If you do not and are looking for a suggested plan, I will be using Tyndale’s The One Year ® Bible. This plan includes an Old and New Testament passage each day, along with a reading from the Proverbs and the Psalms.
There are a couple of ways you can get this Bible.
The first is to purchase a copy. Obviously Mardel or Lifeway have them, as does Amazon. (They have a Kindle copy, if you are an eBook reader.)
The other way, which I find extremely helpful in keeping up with a reading plan, is downloading the YouVersion Bible app. It is available for iOS (here) and Android (here), or you can also find it online at http://www.bible.com (here). (This is a good Bible app in general, if you do not already have a favorite.)
Once you have the app or are on the site, go to the “Plans” section, look for “Whole Bible” plans and then search for “The One Year Bible” (it probably is the first one on the list). You can sign up, and then let your smartphone or tablet’s notifications remind you to read that day’s passage.
I hope you will join us. If you are inclined, leave a comment here or on Facebook to let us know you are undertaking this. It will be great to encourage one another in this journey. If you want to share thoughts on your reading via social media, use the hashtags #1hbs and #southplainsdbr.
I pray that whatever reading plan or time you regularly spend in God’s word is enriching and transformative and that 2016 is a year of great growth in your desire to know and follow God better.
