Proverbs 1
Author: Rob Anderson
“My son, if sinners entice you,
do not consent.” (Proverbs 1.10, ESV)
Raising children is not for the faint of heart. It is just hard work.
What may make it especially hard is that you spend all of the time and energy you can to do they things you know best to do, only to have to let your child walk out the door and walk down the street where Ladies Wisdom and Folly are crying out for his or her attention.
Your work is done; it is up to that child.
Suddenly, the words of the Proverb writer make a lot of sense. We earnestly pray: Son, Daughter—do not go the way of sinners. It is your choice now, but please, please make it a good one.
By the way, it makes sense for parents, too. Maybe we should write it on our bathroom mirror as follows:
[Your Name Here], if sinners entice you, don’t do it!
